Poe's greatest feat in this story to me was his ability to create a dark and tense atmosphere by using repetitions and gloomy vocabulary. Making us feel as trapped , nervous, almost as mad as the protagonist, you reach the conclusion of this nerve-wrecking narrative sharing a part of the killer's relief that all of this is over.
The Lady or The Tiger?
- The most important conflict in the Lady story takes place in the mind of the princess. This effectively engages the reader because it is unresolved.
- Bierce keeps readers interest high through vivid imagery and intentionally misleading shifts in settings and point of view.
Although the Nightingale is seemingly a fairy tale, it uses many poetic elements such as figures of speech, imagery and symbolism (as tree having humanlike souls). Uses a lot of colorful imagery (roses)
